Here is an interesting little release. Overall it’s a pretty solid slab of Brazilian power metal, but it really has a bit of an old school heavy vibe with a bit of a doomy and dark exterior. Pretty solid, but it is marred a bit by some minor production issues, namely it has a bit of a muddy feel and is not as crisp as it should be. That said it is a step up from the average album production from that region. The music is very interesting and well written, though maybe not as grandiose as it could be. I have a feeling that this is one of those bands that is going to get tighter and stronger with a bit more studio seasoning under their belts (they have been together for fifteen years but this is their first non demo release). Brazil is currently a pretty solid country and with a bit more money to invest in some better studio setups, a few of the bands (possibly including DarkWitch among them) have a chance of breaking out onto the world scene a bit more, at least at some level or another. Getting back to this release, the vocals in particular shine nicely over the music. A bit more riffing would really help the band pop a bit too as they seem to be more comfortable with the polished guitar work. But again it’s a very solid first step in their metal journey.
