Soldier is another one of the myriad of bands from the NWOBHM movement of the early 80s that put out a couple of singles, eps, demos, etc and then just burned out too soon. Like their other country-mates, they just didn’t get the big break that the more erstwhile bands such as Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, Girlschool and Raven among others enjoyed. Also like the others, they have since reformed in the 21st century (in fact their reformation predates many of the other NWOBHM bands that have made similar comebacks, having been back for about a dozen years now). With a couple of post reunion albums already to their credit, Soldier is really starting to pick up some waves. Enough with the history class, let’s talk about some music here. The band plays some of the midspeed and melodic metal that is the bread and butter NWOBHM sound, and their singer of the last few years has a very easy voice with a very hard rock bend, which gives the band a bit of a more mainstream feel to them, which is a bit ironic since it makes it even more puzzling they didn’t get their just due back in the day. No sense really dwelling in the past when the future for heavy metal is pretty bright in its own way. Soldier is back and they are on the march!
