Zandelle have hardly been strangers to the whole power metal scene, having been around for about 20 years now, but I don’t think they really got their just due as their releases have been very consistent in sound and production if not quite as celebrated as some of the bigger boys in the yard. It has been six long years since their last album proper, and that probably hasn’t helped them make their presence felt either. But the title of their latest release says it all, the band is still here, doing what they do best and surviving against the odds, showing their determination has not waned and that they are still trying to forge their destiny on the landscape. This album has all the power metal tropes you might expect with a nice two minute intro that really gives the whole package a nice kick right out of the gates with its huge epic sort of feel. From there the album just moves at a very quick clip with the one two combination of Unending Fortitude and Lycanthrope. From their they begin to show their diversity and mixing up the tempos a bit, all to a nice effect. The slower songs really showcase vocalist George Tsalikis’ emotive vocals. Overall, there is nothing on here that sounds particularly weak and maybe if there is one thing they could have done is included one or two more tracks that scorched things up a bit to give them more of a statement that they are back and taking names, but I guess that really isn’t their style. Either way Zandelle is back and let’s see if their Perseverence pays off!
